Corporate Green Day Challenge

The 2014 Corporate Green Day Challenge was held Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:00am-12:00pm at various locations throughout metro Atlanta. The Corporate Green Day Challenge offers an opportunity for your employees to experience first-hand the work of EarthShare of Georgia’s environmental member organizations and area parks that “do green” every day in caring for our air, land and water.

Nearly 600 employees from 9 company sponsors participated in the 2014 Corporate Green Day Challenge, dedicating a Saturday morning to cleaning up parks and stream banks, planting gardens and mulching trees throughout Atlanta at 8 area locations.

The 2014 Corporate Green Day Challenge award went to The Coca-Cola Company. Coca-Cola had a team of 50 employees that planted over 300 plants, cleared approximately 15,000 square feet of invasive species, then replanted the stream buffer and stream bank with native species beneficial to the stream and area wildlife.  Partnering with the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper for a major environmental improvement project at Connally Park, the volunteers were very well-organized, listened carefully to instructions, quickly mastered new tools, and asked many great questions to learn more about the stream and park that they were working to improve and protect. What stood out, most of all, was the fact that their work is clearly sustainable, and the long-term effects of their project will not be fully realized for at least a year. Stream bank restoration is an extremely important project that significantly reduces soil erosion, protecting Georgia’s water and wildlife habitat.
